JOIN THE GREAT LAKES BOATING FEDERATION NOW!

With no one at the helm of the recreational boating industry, the Great Lakes Boating Federation is stepping up to make sure that the concerns and interests of recreational boaters are heard. JOIN NOW!

The Great Lakes Boating Federation is the voice of recreational boaters on the Great Lakes and all of our America’s inland waterways. Whether we’re lobbying Washington politicians and bureaucrats on behalf of freshwater boaters or providing our members with discounts at boating related businesses, the GLBF exists to serve you, the boater.

Unlike some national organizations, we believe that, to be truly effective, a boating organization must be willing to advance boater’s interests on a local, state, and regional level. The Federation is committed to defend boaters against any harsh and undue regulations affecting their ease and pleasure of boating. There are 4.3 million registered boaters on the Great Lakes, and the GLBF stands to give them a strong, unified voice.

The Federation is also committed to providing member discounts at the best vendors and providers of boating products and services. By partnering with businesses, we are able to provide privileges to our members while supporting the local economy.

One third of all boaters in the United States call the Great Lakes home. We are a major staple of the local economy, spending $16 billion annually—money that supports American and Canadian businesses. Joining the GLBF membership supports both the organization and its cause, helping empower boaters specifically in the Great Lakes region. Boaters of the Sweetwater Seas can create a force to be reckoned with, if we act now and join together as one.

Join at any of our three levels and help save boating on inland waterways.

Mary’s Voyage By Mary Caldwell and Matthew M. Douglas

Stranded penniless in Panama after World War II, John Caldwell set out for Sydney alone on a 20-foot boat, yearning to rejoin his wife Mary, whom he had not seen since their three-day honeymoon more than one year before. The story of that voyage is told in his book Desperate Voyage, one of the most loved sailing stories ever written. Now, almost 60 years later, the remarkable woman who inspired his journey tells her own life story in this, her fascinating autobiography.

Born in England and raised on an Australian farm, Mary Caldwell met her future husband, an American soldier, while serving in the Australian Air Force during the Second World War. They were married, he made his legendary voyage to see her and then a life of adventure together began.

In 1952, she and John and their children became the first family to attempt a voyage around the world on a small sailing craft using only a sextant and dead reckoning to guide them across thousands of miles of ocean. Mary was pregnant at the beginning of the voyage and already had a toddler and infant son in tow. Months passed without sight of land. In Tahiti, she gave birth to her youngest son. Storms, hurricanes, a tsunami—they encountered all of this and survived.

Eventually, she and her family settled in the Grenadines and founded the Palm Island resort. In a sad postscript to this volume, Mary Caldwell died shortly after the publication of this book. The book she left behind, however, is compelling, enlightening and entertaining evidence that the life she lived was one of fortitude and fearlessness. We should all embark on Mary’s Voyage, if only vicariously, in a comfortable chair, turning these pages compulsively.

The Freshwater Fish Cookbook By A.D. Livingston

All anglers worth their salt know that they can catch better fish, any day, than they can buy. With that underappreciated truth in mind, A.D. Livingston presents his greatest gift to the freshwater angler.

Delivered in his incomparable and humorous style, The Freshwater Fish Cookbook provides more than 200 creative, mouthwatering recipes for many different kinds of fish—from trout, salmon, black bass, perch, pike, walleye and stripers to so-called “trash” fish like suckers and carp, which more and more American anglers are getting hooked on.

This cookbook includes excellent color photos of food and fish; advice on how to clean, fillet and even smoke your catch; and helpful tips on cooking and freezing fish.

Informative, eminently browsable and highly entertaining, The Freshwater Fish Cookbook is more than just another collection of recipes—it’s an essential all-around resource for any angler who likes to keep a few for the table.
